I love it when video games allow you to totally customise your character. The first MMO I played, City of Heroes, gave you a massive range of choices for your avatar’s appearance, allowing you to feel unique in the world you were going to adventure in. Of course, a lot of people just made themselves look like Batman or Wolverine, which is something the game creators would frown upon due to IP reasons. The upcoming Spore game that I’ve blogged about before has customising of creatures (they aren’t quite avatars as there are more than one and you play “God”) as a major part of its gameplay. The game Soul Calibur 4 also allows you to customise characters, and there is a wealth of charcaters out there that have been made to look like famous characters, from the awesome (Nightwing) to the creepy (Mario.) Toddle is an online application that allows you to send really good-looking email newsletters. Like little email Zoolanders. Have a play around with the UI, it’s sweet - very easy to use. Toddle is developed by Spoiltchild, a design studio headed up by Alan O’Rourke. I remember Alan asking on Twitter for ideas for the names of different templates. Here’s my reply - now click Change Design on Toddle - just sayin’!
This post is part of the Tuesday push thing, and also because Alan’s a cool guy and it’s a great product.
Thanks to Darragh for twittering this - it’s a fan-made film trailer based on the character Slaine (the stories were based on Celtic myths) from the comic 200AD. I wish this was for real.
Star Trek Online looks like it might be worth a look - always wanted to command a Federation Starship. Though I’d most likely be in the holodeck with a ‘Do Not Disturb’ holo-sign on the door, and insist to be beamed everywhere. And to have my poop and pee beamed out of me so I wouldn’t have to use the loo.
