20 September 2010 and I was the stereotypical useless pile of nerves in a hospital pacing, drinking coffee and trying to be helpful while Sarah did all the hard work. Now James is a whole one years old today, waddling around, falling over, pulling at things, climbing all over us and watching me do Gandalf impressions while he pulls at the baby gates. Happy birthday little man!

One lesson I’ve learned is never to gloat – boast about three nights of unbroken sleep and you’re almost guaranteed a streak of sleepless nights. But it’s been an amazing year – watching him grow from this tiny, fragile little pink bundle into a laughing, waddling little boy who smiles and gives you a big hug has been a life-changing and amazing experience, and one I’m so grateful for.

Just a little note to say my son James was born yesterday at 7.30pm. 7 pounds 12 ounces. Baby and his mum Sarah are doing great. I just can’t stop smiling.
