Part one - what Twitter is to me

Twitter is a tough one to describe. Some people call it micro-blogging, but I like the “mass text messaging” description better. To me, it’s like a typical pub conversation, with some people having one-to-one chats, while others pontificate to a mass audience. The great thing is, unlike a pub conversation, you can have lots of one-to-ones at once, or join in other peoples’ conversations if you feel you have a point to make.

What do I use it for?

I mainly use twitter to keep up with what’s going on in the Irish Web industry. I follow people who I respect in the areas of design, development, hosting, etc., as well as people who work in companies that are based in the internet/mobile web field. I ask for and give advice on a variety of things web-related, and look for help on bug fixes, links etc.
I also follow people who work in the UK, Belgium and the US, but the guys in the UK are the big shots like Jon Hicks and John Oxton so I’m not to sure I’ll be chatting to them in the near future! - and the US timezone thing makes a bit of a difference as well to keeping up with people.

This is super-cute and it’s handmade in Dublin too! It’s from Etsy, a site that specialises in handmade goods - though in case you’re thinking it’s full of junk, Etsy have recieved millions in funding so I don’t imagine they will have car-boot-sale crap up there.
